Playing with pastels

Having fun learning  new skills and techniques with pastels pure and simple  with Graham Oliver  as our tutor

Working  on a new picture from  one of my own photos it isn’t  finished but I think it is starting  to come together.
Done for today
Done some work on the rocks I’m  going to leave  it for now.
I’ve added some wheat, is it better?
I’ve been really struggling with this picture I’m still not 100% happy with it.. The wonderful thing with pastels is you can keep painting layer after layer until you are happy.

I’ve decided it is finished, today I’ve taken pictures to be framed, let’s hope they know what they are doing, pastels have to be kept clear of the glass and the frame has to be sealed to reduce water damage.. fingers crossed.

Flowers in my garden

We have made our back garden into a wild flower oasis. These are the first of my flowers. Drawn in coloured pencil on Bristol board
A little more added I find it very hard to make the white petals stand out on the white paper. For those interested these are grown from wild flower seeds and are wildlife friendly, we have seen lots of bees of various kinds and butterflis. We also have two hedgehogs that frequently visit.

The flowers are corn flower, Marigold and Corncockle. Brilliant names.

Summer flowers

Going back to my roots with this piece of art. Coured pencil botanical flowers. This is a Cana lily, as you can see I still have a lot more to do.

More colour needs adding to the drawing on the left and the leaves and bracks still need to be done. Like all plants every time I go back to it the plant has not only moved but has also changed colour. The flower is definitely getting darker.
A bit more done today.
More today so glad for the photos taken as the plant has changed so much
Cana lily taking so much time as every time I work on the next flower I spot something that needs doing on the previous one.
I think it is finished 🤔

A little home printing

View through my window

The seal on our kitchen window has broken and patterns are forming between the panes I’ve drawn a picture using some of them and cut them into lino. I’m relatively new to lino printing so doing 3 layers was interesting. I do like the final images though and it has excited me, so expect more.

Work in progress

I hope I have captured the likeness of this little dog

I think once you have painted the eyes the picture comes to life. I still have his partner to do.

Started on his little friend They are Malteese terrors
I think I have finished but like my other paintings I will live with it and see if I feel more needs doing.

Latest commission

Today I finally stopped procrastinating and started. This one is slightly different for me as none of the three photos have the dogs at the same size and they now are.

Now waiting to see if this is what they want before I continue
I have been given the okay to continue, so today I’ve done a bit more now I have to wait for it to dry before I can do any more.
